Real Estate Academics - MBA Mentor Program

Purpose
  • To provide some external view points for counseling the student on the selection of courses, career planning, and to assist in developing summer internship positions.

Responsibilities
  • To meet with the student once per quarter.
  • To discuss with the student general trends in the industry that affect the training and educational requirements of new professionals entering the industry.
  • To provide input into the types of activities within the university and through external trade associations that the student should become involved with.
  • To assist in initiating a process of networking for the student. Note: Mentor's have no requirement to provide or find employment for students, merely to advise and direct.
  • To provide a brief written report directed to the Real Estate Program Director, near the end of the student's formal education, assessing the student's attributes for success in business. (This report to become a permanent part of the student's file, copied at the option of the mentor to the student.)

Student Responsibilities
  • To set up an initial meeting with the assigned mentor, at the convenience of the mentor.
  • To continue to meet with the mentor on at least a quarterly basis.
  • To prepare for all such meetings with an agenda of questions or topics to be discussed with the mentor, in order to efficiently utilize and show respect for the time provided by the professionals involved in the mentor program.

Administration
  • Mentors and students will be matched by either the Real Estate Program Director, or MBA Real Estate Advisor with the input of the graduate program director for the CoB.
  • Students may request or assist in the process of finding a mentor.
  • Only one MBA student will be assigned per mentor.
