The MBA with a concentration in real estate was launched in September 1991 in response to an increasing demand for graduate education across the nation in the field, particularly among corporate real estate divisions and institutional investors. Support from the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and exposure to groups like the Building Owners Managers Association (BOMA), International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), National Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives (NACORE), National Association of REALTORS (NAR) and others, provided invaluable networking opportunities for the University of Cincinnati.
Real estate at the graduate level is broadly defined to include appraisal, development, corporate real estate, leasing, brokerage, property management, and institutional investment. The focus of the graduate program is primarily commercial (office or retail) and industrial, with some exposure to housing policy issues.
Students will develop a competency in communication and writing skills, micro-computer skills, negotiation skills, and problem-solving analytical skills based on a strong general business education core and a defined set of real estate courses. Additionally, students will be provided with a significant amount of theory, methodology, and application case material.
