Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium

Train Station in BelgiumWhen:  Fall Quarter

Study at one of Europe's oldest universities, the Universite Catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium (30 mins. from Brussels). The city of Louvain-la-Neuve has a unique, pedestrians-only design, the focal point of which is the university. There are 16,000 students on campus. UC students can study there for autumn quarter, a semester, or the academic year. The University is French-speaking, but offers business courses in English. The courses are of particular interest to Operations Management and BSIM students.

The City

Louvain-la-Neuve is a new town, as its name suggests. In the late 1960s there was growing political unrest between Flemish and French speakers at the University of Leuven (in the Flemish sector of Belgium). French-speaking students and faculty decided to move to French-speaking Belgium, and settled in a wooded area south of Brussels. Construction of Louvain-la-Neuve began in 1971 and the university and town have continued to expand. It is definitely a student-friendly environment and has a vibrant cultural life!
