How to Nominate:  (Nomination Period closed for 2008)
Do you know a great Family Business? Nominate them now!

Family businesses have a tremendous impact on the nation's total economic climate. In fact, they account for more than half the total employment, new job creation and Gross Domestic Product. Family businesses in general do not receive the recognition they deserve for this crucial role they play in our economy and community.

To honor the enormous positive contributions made by family companies, both large and small, the University of Cincinnati and the Goering Center for Family & Private Business are pleased to announce the annual Tri-State Family Business of the Year Awards. The competition will work as follows:

Nominees will be judged on the basis of their positive family-business linkage, their business success, their multiple family member and/or multiple generation involvement, their contributions to community and industry, and their innovative business practices, products or strategies.

Awards Will Be Granted in Four Categories
  1. Under 100 employees
  2. Over 100 employees
  3. Innovation (Products, Markets, Organizational)
This award will be given to the family business judged to have been the most innovative in the areas of products, markets or organization (only one, not all three, of these areas is sufficient to qualify as a winning innovation). The criterion for the award should be documented results which may include:
      • Bottom or top line increases
      • Customer satisfaction increases
      • Employee Retention
      • Productivity increase
      • Market share increases
      • Return on investment

Innovation is an exciting and dynamic process that needs to be recognized, and with the pace of change taking place faster than ever, innovation in the ways we do business is becoming a necessary part of strategy.

  4. Community Service
This award will recognize the family business that exemplifies the meaning of commitment to the community in ways that enhance the quality of life for all who live in the Tri-State area. Such commitment may include not only financial resources, but also time, material (product donations), and talent resources. Areas may be in the arts, education, historic preservation, environment, health-care, or other areas significant to the contributor. The opportunities for “service above self” are enormous in our community, and it is important to build awareness of these challenges in order to encourage others to serve.
