International Business Major

The objective of the international business major is to broaden a student's awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by business in a global economy.  Courses are designed to enhance the knowledge and skills developed in other business courses, as well as to provide proficiency in international business.  Beginning with a core global business environment course, the program moves to international studies in accounting, finance, management, cultural differences, marketing, economics or law.

An international experience is required for this major. CoB's International Programs Office offers several exciting study abroad options at partner universities outside of the US. Options range from 4 credits for a one week intensive program overseas to 18 credits for a quarter-long exchange with a partner university in Europe. Additionally, IB students have the option of completing 16 credit hours of IB electives either during winter quarter (includes 3 weeks field study in Chile or France and Spain) or during summer quarter (includes 3 weeks field study in China or Thailand.)  Another option for completing the international requirement is to participate in the international co-op program by working in a foreign country for 6 months.

The international business major is a gateway to many jobs in the global economy. Students might expand their portfolio by completing a second major or concentration in another area. For example, completing double majors in international business and finance leads to opportunities in the field of international finance and banking.  Integrating it with the marketing major can provide experience in adapting projects and services for international markets.  Combining an international business major with a language minor makes you marketable to many multinational companies.  Cross-cultural understanding is a valuable skill not only in global companies but also in the increasingly diverse domestic market.
