Accounting majors intending careers in public accounting should take at least one accounting elective. At least nine (four quarter hour) upper-level accounting courses are Ohio Accountancy Board specified requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination. 22-ACCT-598 Professional Ethics is a requirement for the CPA exam in Ohio.

Sitting for the CPA examination also requires the completion of 225 quarter credit hours. Additional courses beyond the BBA minimum hours will be needed to meet the 225 requirement.

The cooperative education program is recommended to all accounting majors. The Masters of Accountancy program internship is waived for BBA accounting majors who complete a cooperative education (one and a half-year) certificate.
