Professor Hatch received his PhD in finance from Indiana University in 1995. He served on the finance faculty at the University of Delaware for three years before joining the University of Cincinnati in 1998.
Professor Hatch's research interests are in the field of market microstructure. More specifically, his work investigates the impact of liquidity provision and institutional design on order execution quality and price discovery. Professor Hatch's current work examines the extent to which financial markets value mandated disclosure and measures market quality as a function of the portfolio composition and workload of NYSE specialists. In conjunction with his academic work, Professor Hatch has also served as a consultant on execution quality issues for several national broker-dealer firms, law firms, and exchanges and is currently a consultant for a local hedge fund.
Professor Hatch primarily teaches markets-related courses. At the undergraduate level he teaches International Finance and Securities Trading. At the Masters level he teaches International Financial Markets and Money and Capital Markets while at the PhD level Professor Hatch teaches an empirical market microstructure course.
