James R. Evans, PhD

James R. Evans, PhDDr. Evans holds bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial engineering from Purdue, and a PhD in industrial and systems engineering from Georgia Tech. Evans is the lead author of two of the leading quality management textbooks used in business schools worldwide: Managing for Quality and Performance Excellence, 7th Edition, and Quality & Performance Excellence: Management, Organization, and Strategy, 5th Edition, and has also written books in statistical process control, management science, operations management, simulation and risk analysis, statistics and data analysis, and creative thinking. Evans served as an Examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award from 1994-1996, Senior Examiner from 1997-1999, Alumni Examiner from 2000-2001, and on the Panel of Judges from 2004-2007. He has also been very active with the Ohio Partnership for Excellence. He served a judge for the 2002 U.S. Army Communities of Excellence ACOE Award Program and is chair of the Panel of Judges for the Alaska Performance Excellence award in 2009. He is former President of the Decision Sciences Institute and serves as Editor of the Quality Management Journal and on editorial boards of several other academic journals.
