Program Description:

High fuel costs are impacting production and consumption trends around the world, while facilitating exploration of innovative alternative fuel technologies. This workshop will explore how flexible supply chains adapt to increasing energy costs under a complex mix of global plus local sourcing and markets. The major impacts of future economic trends on supply chains will be discussed, along with opportunities for improvement, pitfalls to avoid, and specific approaches for developing a robust supply chain risk strategy. Questions addressed during this workshop include:

  • What is the impact on supply chains due to short-term and long-term trends in energy costs and globalization? Are soaring energy costs reversing globalization?
  • What approaches have different industry sectors (consumer packaged goods, manufacturing, and retail) found useful to counteract the detrimental impact of increased transportation costs?
  • How does one manage the complexities associated with rising energy costs, fluctuating exchange rates, evolving economies and technologies, greening of supply chains?
  • What techniques, tools, and principles are available to help manage energy costs under globalization?
  • How does a US firm balance supply and demand opportunities offered by globalization with the increasing trends in costs and pressures that reduce revenues?

To answer these questions, case studies will be presented, including Q & A to discuss issues in more detail. In addition, the event will provide opportunities to network and share alternative supply chain perspectives.

Speakers are executives from a broad spectrum of sectors including
