Alum Recognized for Contributions to Accounting

• Arnold C. Hanish, BBA '70, was recently recognized for his major contributions to the field of accounting by the Indiana CPA Society. Each year the organization recognizes CPA's for their impact on the community and the profession. The organization honored Hanish with the Outstanding CPA in Business & Industry Award for his major impact on the field and contributions including the global accounting process, including Sarbanes-Oxley.

Each year the Indiana CPA Society recognizes CPAs who have served their profession and/or communities in a commendable manner. The contributions these professionals make reflect positively on the individuals as well as the CPA profession. This year, College of Business alum Arnold Hanish, Eli Lilly and Company, was presented the Outstanding CPA in Business & Industry Award.

Arni Hanish is currently vice president and chief accounting officer at Eli Lilly and Company. He is responsible for the global accounting process, including Sarbanes-Oxley, as well as the U.S. payroll, shareholder and stock option services. From 1999-2001, Hanish served on an AICPA task force that resulted in the publication of the white paper "Accounting for In-process Research and Development of Expenses." He was included in Treasury & Risk's 2008 and 2009 articles of the "100 Most Influential People in Finance." He also has been recognized by Business Finance in their articles entitled "Influencers 2007: Transparency Changes Everything," "2006's Influencers: 60 Authoritative Voices," and "2005's 50 Worth Watching Influencers." He is also a past president of the board of directors of the Indianapolis Opera Company and its foundation as well as past chair of the audit committee of the United Way of Indianapolis.
