Each year, the UC Center for Entrepreneurship Education & Research in conjunction with the Cincinnati Chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and UC Small Business Institute® program holds an internal competition for the best field consulting project completed during the year – The Cecil Boatright Business Plan Competition. The competition is funded in part by the SCORE Foundation and the family of the late Cecil Boatright, long time branch manager of the Cincinnati Field Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Students representing the top teams receive recognition of their excellence during the luncheon.

“It seems as though they get better every year,” commented one of the SCORE judges who read this year's top reports.

The winning graduate case was presented by Michele Phelps, Shannon Rappach and Jennifer Martin Bellin, under the guidance of Dr. Charles H. Matthews, SBI director and executive director of the Center for Entrepreneurship Education and Research at the University of Cincinnati. Their case project was for WCET, the local PBS station in Cincinnati and focused on the development of its “CET Connect” web portal.

“We were challenged from multiple perspectives including monetization of the site, viewership, content and more,” noted Martin in her remarks during the luncheon. “The team did an outstanding job,” commented Matthews, “including a Monte Carlo simulation, benchmarking and extensive web research including the popular You Tube Internet video site.”

The winning undergraduate team included Ben Courtier and Mike Murray, under the guidance of their professor Dr. Tom Dalziel. Their field case consulting project for Advanity focused on developing a web site through which prospective employers could contact students directly after viewing resumes online. The 1st runner-up undergraduate team completed their project for Resident Home Corporation and included Adam Bothwell, Rachael Nemcic and Josh Utter. Their project tackled financial and strategic development problems for their client.

“These teams represent the best of the best and the College of Business can be very proud of their work and accomplishments,” noted Dalziel.
