As SVP of Programs, Dr. Matthews will be responsible for the coordination of all ICSB events and conferences. In his time thus far as SVP of Programs, Dr. Matthews oversaw the planning for the 2006 ICSB World Conference in Melbourne, Australia, which was held in June. Under the direction of Dr. Matthews, the planning for the 2007 World Conference is already well underway. It is scheduled to be held in Turku, Finland with the theme of “At the Crossroads of East and West: New Opportunities for Entrepreneurship and Small Business.” Additionally, Dr. Matthews has recently signed with the President of the ICSB Korean affiliate, Inho KIM to hold the 2009 ICSB World Conference in Seoul, Korea. Dr. Matthews has always taken an active role with ICSB. Before his term as SVP of Programs, Dr. Matthews has previously served a four-year term on the ICSB Board as Senior Vice President of Research and Publications. As SVP Research, Dr. Matthews oversaw one of the leading journals in the field, the Journal of Small Business Management (JSBM). In March 2006, the JSBM earned the distinction of having the highest percent increase in total citations from January 1995 to December 2005 in the field of Economics & Business. According to current Essential Science Indicators database statistics, this journal's record includes 309 papers cited a total of 766 times to date. The International Council for Small Business (ICSB) was established to encourage and support people and organizations around the globe to seek, develop and share new and innovative small and medium enterprise ideas, research outcomes and teaching/facilitation methodologies in changing and volatile times. The ICSB has over 2400 members from over 70 countries.
