MS-IS Program Overview
The Master of Science in Information Systems is a degree program geared toward part-time and full-time students who wish to start or further a career in Information Systems. Housed in the Department of Information Systems (IS), this graduate program caters to the needs of both part-time and full-time students. To obtain a MS-IS, a student may need anywhere from 72 to 82 quarter-credits beyond the baccalaureate degree depending on prior educational background. The program is uniquely designed to enable students to pursue dual degrees of Master of Business Administration (MBA) and MS-IS. With proper course planning, a student can complete the MS-IS degree with 32 (IS concentration in MBA) to 44 (non-IS concentration in MBA) quarter-credits of graduate work beyond the MBA degree if s/he meets the programming foundation requirements.
Entering students with a non-business undergraduate degree will be expected to fulfill business foundation requirements via a pre-defined set of business core courses (26 quarter-credits). Students with no background in accounting or applied statistics may have to take additional remedial 2-credit courses offered on these topics by the College of Business.
A significant and unique feature of the program is that it provides a track in the full time program for co-op work in a company for a period of two quarters (minimum of 20 weeks) as an integral part of the MS-IS degree.
