Academic Programs - Accounting

The accounting department offers three degrees: Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA), Masters of Science in Accounting (MSAcc), and a PhD in Business with a concentration in accounting. The BBA degree is designed for students who want to work in the field of accounting. The MSAcc (in combination with the BBA) satisfies the requirements to sit for the CPA exam and is designed for students who want to enter the field of public accounting. The PhD in accounting prepares students for an academic career with a coursework that provides the tools and knowledge to do original research in a variety of areas.

Undergraduate

Major in Accounting: requires the completion of the 8 accounting courses: Intermediate Accounting I, II and III, Cost Accounting, Consolidated Financial Statements, Tax I, Accounting Information Systems, and Auditing.

Graduate

MS Accounting: This program, when combined with an undergraduate business degree in accounting satisfies the education requirements to sit for the CPA exam in the State of Ohio and 45 other states, the District of Columbia , Puerto Rico , and Guam. The program is offered in both full-time and part-time formats and can be taken by students with a bachelors degree in Accounting (48 credits), a non-Accounting business degree (57 credits), or a non-business degree (66 credits).

PhD

Concentration in Accounting: The Department of Accounting seeks exceptional students with strong analytical and verbal skills. Accounting research examines the incentives for and the process of generating accounting information and evaluates its usefulness for investors, corporate managers and auditors. The program is rigorous and demanding requiring significant course work in microeconomics, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, and finance as well as doctoral level research seminars in accounting. Depending on the particular research interest, a student may also pursue coursework in psychology, sociology or other social science disciplines. The objective of the PhD program is to train individuals to identify original research questions and pursue them in an efficient and systematic manner. The doctoral students are trained primarily to be productive faculty members in research universities. We have currently five students in the program and plan to add at most 2-3 new students each year. The average GMAT of our existing student is around 700.
