Breaking News: College of Business Welcomes New Dean! The Board of Trustees has just approved the appointment of Dr. Will McIntosh as the 8th dean of UC's College of Business. Dr. McIntosh brings to his new position a rarely found balance of industry experience and academic expertise. His appointment is the result of an extensive search that included input from alumni and corporate and community partners as well as from faculty, staff and students. CoB Centennial Update September 21 marked the beginning of our 100th academic year. Founded in 1906, the College of Finance, Commerce & Accounts began a century of excellence in business education at the University of Cincinnati. Plans for the coming year focus on celebrating the tremendous accomplishments of our students, alumni, faculty and staff, and our highly valued corporate and community partnerships. Homecoming Day Open House Please help us ramp up for our 2006 Centennial by joining us at Homecoming. Programs and Centers News Three exciting new programs admitted their inaugural classes this fall. The addition of the BBA EXTEND, and new Masters programs in Finance and Marketing to CoB's portfolio of academic programs meet the demands of a competitive, fast-paced marketplace.
Executive Education CoB has established a Physician Executive Development Program. Designed to help physicians understand the business of medicine, the first program this fall serves seven doctors from UC Physicians.
Economic Center for Education & Research The first Alpaugh Scholars Summer Institute was a great success. Primary and Secondary teachers learned the fundamentals of economics and business and will continue to participate in additional professional development activities throughout the coming school year.
John Morris is the new Chief Operations Officer and Director of Education at the Economics Center.
Goering Center On August 30, more than 500 people attended the Goering Center For Family & Private Business Sixth Annual Tri-State Family Business of the Year Awards at Music Hall. Finalists and Winners were recognized in Over 100 Employees, Under 100 Employees, Innovation, and Community Service categories. Each year this event grows in size and stature, clearly demonstrating the special role of family and privately-owned business in the Cincinnati region.
Campus Update If you have not visited campus lately - you may not recognize it! An incredible transformation has taken place as the Main Street project nears completion. In 2004 the entirely renovated Tangeman University Center and Swift Hall reopened and the Joseph A. Steger Student Life Center opened its doors for the first time. From Lindner Hall we can see the long-awaited Student Recreation Center rapidly nearing completion.
Alumni News Dr. Tim Keyes, Senior Vice President, Corporate Financial Services Division of GE, and 1993 Quantitative Analysis PhD Alumnus, has been presented the prestigious GE Edison Award for contributions to the General Electric Company. His work has led to 15 patent applications.
Matt Kryman, a 2003 CoB graduate, never dreamed that staying with host families in France and Mexico would equip him for his experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan.

It's easy to use and it's free to all UC alumni. To enroll, you must first obtain your alumni ID number. Go to www.alumni.uc.edu and in a few seconds, you'll have it. From there, you can establish your inCircle™ profile and become a member of this great business and social network.
Student News CoB congratulates Lindner Honors-PLUS students Brian Delaney and Andrew Jandes, selected as UC's first Presidential Fellows by the Center for Study of the Presidency, a non-partisan organization serving as a central resource on issues affecting the modern presidency. It is a great honor for our students and the college is extremely proud of Brian and Drew.
James Kostura and Brock Fortman had experiences to last a lifetime in the UC International Co-op Program. Click on their names to read their reflections.
Linda Matuszewski, Accounting PhD student, has won the national award for best paper at the Tenth Ethics Research Symposium.
Tom Glaze, QAOM graduate student, won first place at the regional level in the prestigious APICS (American Productivity & Control Society) technical paper competition. Tom will go on to compete at the national level with others from around the world.
Faculty News
Celebrating Teaching at CoB Thanks to the generosity of Daniel J. Westerbeck Jr. (MBA, 1973), this year we expand our impressive collection of Teaching Awards. Recognizing the importance of quality teaching has become a hallmark of the College of Business. In 1991, Professor Emeritus Mike Dean launched the Michael L. Dean EXCEL Awards for Undergraduate and Graduate Excellence in Classroom Education and Learning. Since its inception, EXCEL has distributed over $100,000 in awards. Complemented by the Ronald J. Dornoff Fellow and the Harold Grilliot Award, the new Westerbeck Fund will recognize and further support faculty whose passion and leadership in teaching make a lasting impact on the lives of our students.
